Traditional Dog Training Classes

Traditional Dog Training Classes are great for:
* New puppy owners. Has it been a while since your last puppy – or maybe this is your first? We will get you started on the right paw!
* Rescued dogs or those that are new to your family. Perhaps you’re one of those wonderful people who has saved the life of an adult shelter dog, or one out of a bad situation. Maybe you’re helping one that can no longer stay in its former home. Good for you! You will probably have questions as your new family member settles in, and we’ll be there to answer them and support you.
* Owners with a challenge. Maybe you got your pup a while ago, but time flew by and now you have some behavior challenges to fix. Our traditional dog training classes are the right place to start.
* Dogs with some training, but you want to do more. Have you already done a basic manners class, or a lot of training at home, but you want to keep improving on your skills? Did your insurance company tell you that they offer a discount for CGC certified dogs? Do you kids want to teach your dog tricks? We would love to help you meet your goals!

Puppy Start Right Class

Start your 7-14 week old puppy out right. Create a happy, outgoing puppy with positive and fun socialization classes. With a confident start in life, your puppy will be easier to train, and be far less likely to develop any future issues, such as reacting negatively to strangers or new situations, barking at other dogs, or chasing things he shouldn’t.

We know that while puppies are darling, they can bring frustration. Poodles leaving puddles, Chows chewing everything, mutts mouthing you, Weimeraners whining in the crate! We understand that even though you love him, your pup can leave you wanting to pull your hair out – and there is enough shedding already. In this class, we will teach you how to solve all of those puppy challenges that are making you crazy and bring peace back to your world. Make life easier with our help. In addition to learning all these great new skills, we make a terrific “How did the puppy get into THAT?!?!?” support group! (4 weeks, plus book, $99)

Are you concerned about socializing you puppy before it has had all of its vaccinations? We follow the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommendations for socialization which state:

“The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. During this time puppies should be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing overstimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal or avoidance behavior. For this reason, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated.”

and

“In general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class.”

Basics Class

Are you ready for your 4 month old, or older, dog to learn some manners? Is walking a drag? Is Molly mauling your guests with affection? Is Jasper Jumping on you? Will Cooper not come? Do you just want Lilly to listen? Our Basics training class will help you turn all of this around and make Bounce Off the Walls Bailey into a Perfect Patty! In addition to come when called and leash skills, we will teach Sally to stay, Lulu to leave it, Chomper to take treats nicely, and more. All while having fun and training you dog positively. You’ll end this beginning manners class with your dog on the right track to becoming that furry family member you’re proud of, and have always wanted. (6 weeks, $99)

Click for Tricks Class

Have you heard about clicker training? It’s our favorite way to train dogs! We’ll show you how to use it to teach your dog practical and fun tricks, and to refine behaviors such as leash skills. Is there a trick you would love to teach your dog? We’ll help you! Maybe you’d like Winnie to wipe her muddy paws when she comes in? Let’s teach her a spin. Would you like to make trimming Nala’s nails easier? Shake, wave, and high five will help with this. Teach Tippy to target so she can walk past distracting dogs, or Bowser to bow because it’s just so cute. We will work on all of these tricks and several more. Understanding how to train with the clicker will also make it easier to work towards earning your Canine Good Citizen award and to train future behaviors. (6 weeks, $99)

Beyond Basics Class

Your stay is going great at home. Your dog comes in from the back yard every time. But why wouldn’t Simon stay at the pet store yesterday? Why didn’t Sylvester sit on the sidewalk? Why won’t Dora lay down at the dog park? They have perfect manners at home! Our Beyond Basics dog training class helps you get the behaviors you have worked so hard on at home to apply to all environments. In order to teach your dog to do a behavior everywhere you ask, you have to practice it in new places over and over. Then with distractions and with new environments. Using fun games, we help your dog to understand that what you ask is what you mean — despite that squirrel over there. Your dog will be more focused, listen better, and be ready for anything. We’ll also get you started with heel and teaching your dog to wait at doors — because no one likes to run down the street in your bath robe in the morning. (6 weeks. $99)

CGC Prep Class

You have worked so hard with your dog and we are so proud of you both! Now is the time to show off! The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test is designed to demonstrate all of the hard work you’ve put into training your dog, and to prove that your they are an excellent companion. The good news is that it isn’t as difficult as it sounds. If you’ve taken our other classes you can probably pass almost half of the test already. Let us teach you what CGC evaluators are looking for so you succeed at this 10 part assessment. At the end of the session, our approved evaluator will run the test for real. You know how proud you’ll be to show off their certificate as people admire how well trained your dog is! (6 weeks, $99)
